IMAGE-X is now the vendor for Document
Imaging and workflow for the Chancellor's office
of the University of California, Berkeley. The determination
was made after evaluating products from leading Document
Imaging vendors and with advice from nationally
recognized Document Management consultants.
This project may function as a pilot for other departments
of the University.
The University of California, Berkeley,
is one of the great universities of the world and for this
reason the high volume of correspondence passing through
the Chancellor's office frequently contains items of historical
significance. Consequently, correspondence to the Chancellor's
office must be archived in perpetuity. Furthermore, this
correspondence is not simply of historical significance
but consists of working documents. Complicated arrangements
of protocol involving visiting dignitaries and researchers
often require several officials to handle and comment upon
a single document. The Chancellor's Office made the decision
to implement an integrated Document Imaging and
workflow system to handle these responsibilities.
With Document Imaging, literally millions
of pages of paper files can be replaced by exact, legal
images of documents stored in digital format on optical
disk. Storage space is minimized and the search and retrieval
process can be automated. IMAGE-X IMAGEflow workflow
software provides an efficient means of circulating
among workgroups a faithful electronic copy of any document,
which can be annotated, time-activated, linked to other
information and so on, far superior to the old method of
paper copies and sticky notes.
IMAGE-X was chosen as a result of a year-long
competitive evaluation process. In part this was because
IMAGE-X was able to integrate their Document
Management Imaging Solution with the paper document
tracking system and other business processes that the Chancellor's
office already had in place with significant investment.

world-wide.
